I am leaving for India on July 1, 2022. Interestingly, on the same day, India is banning single-use plastic products. By definition, single-use plastic items are items that are used once before disposal or recycling. India is stepping up to prohibit manufacturing, importing, stocking, distributing, and the usage of single-use plastic products as they are used less and are also the causes of littering. The list of banned items includes ear buds with plastic sticks, plastic flags, polystyrene for decoration, plastic plates, cups, glasses, forks, spoons, knives, straws, trays, wrapping or packaging films around sweet boxes, invitation cards, and cigarette packets just to name a few. The fight against single-use plastic products will be successful if the public is aware of the harmful effects of plastic pollution. As an environmental enthusiast, I hope the banning of single-use plastic products becomes successful.
