“Until you dig a hole, you plant a tree, you water it and make it survive, you haven’t done a thing. You are just talking.” ― Wangari Maathai
May was the month for tree planting and I had the opportunity to participate in a tree-planting event, coordinated by Urban Forest Friends, at the Silliman Community Centre. We had a total of 54 volunteers to plant 20 new trees. The trees we planted were 3 Coast Live Oak trees, 4 Kwanzan Cherry trees, 4 Japanese Green Maple trees, 1 Japanese Red Maple tree, 3 Weeping Red Bud trees, 3 Chinese Pistache ‘Push’ trees, and 2 Sweet Bay Laurel trees. It is a well-known fact that trees are very crucial as they provide oxygen, improve air quality, alleviate climate change, help conserve water, preserve soil, and support wildlife.
You can join the green movement in your neighborhood by searching for local tree planting programs. Your participation can make a real difference, boosting the environment and ecosystem in meaningful ways.
